Discover Kauai‘s most intimate lūʻau experience at The Legend of Hāʻupu Lūʻau, located at the historic Kauaʻi Inn. Immerse yourself in the rich traditions and flavors of old Hawaiʻi with the famous Hāʻupu Mountain as your backdrop. Experience a truly authentic pa’ina (gathering) the whole ʻohana (family) can enjoy in this casual and relaxed outdoor setting.
After a day of exploring, relax on a warm evening with a gentle ocean breeze. Indulge in a traditional Hawaiian luau situated next to the sacred Hāʻupu Mountain at the island’s very first hotel.
Enjoy live music, delectable Hawaiian cuisine, cultural performances, hula dancing, and the presence of paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys), all in the spirit of Aloha. The sound of ukuleles and drums fill the air as musicians play traditional Hawaiian melodies. Hula dancers gracefully move to the rhythm, telling stories through their dances.
The feast includes a variety of dishes such as the traditional style slow cooked shredded kalua pork known for its delicious smoky flavor, lomi lomi salmon, sweet potato laulau, rice, macaroni salad, chicken long rice and a Hawai’i favorite; classic rice pudding for dessert.
About This Property
Rooted in history as the oldest hotel on Kauai and having guests such as John Wayne and the cast of Donovan’s Reef in 1962, The Kauai Inn is an endearing boutique hotel centered with classic Hawaiiana décor and charm. Located in the town of Lihue on the island of Kauai, the property consists of four 2-story buildings each having 12 guestrooms for a total of 48 guest rooms. The Kauai Inn offers its guests amenities such as a swimming pool, BBQ areas, and lush landscaped grounds. This historic property also showcases The Legend of Hā’upu Luau welcoming both in-house guests and others to join in for an unforgettable evening and truly authentic experience capturing the essence of a Hawaiian luau.
The property spans 4 acres with a rectangular shape and relatively level topography. Access to the property is provided via Hulemalu Road, which is situated to the north of the property. The hotel is conveniently located near Nawiliwili Harbor, directly across Niumalu Road from Niumalu Beach Park, which faces Nawiliwili Harbor. And is located only 3 miles away, approximately a 10 minute drive, from the Lihue Airport.

- For groups of 6+ there are no refunds for cancellations within 72 hours of activity
- We will gladly reschedule your activity at no extra cost if changes are made prior to the 48 or 72 hour cancellation period
- Cancellations from date of booking to 48 hours before activity or for larger groups 72 hours before activity are subject to a 10% service charge
- If for some reason we are unable to confirm your reservation with the activity operator due to oversold seats or other unforeseen reasons, a full refund will be provided and you will be notified immediately to discuss alternative dates and activities
If a tour operator cancels any trip due to weather, mechanical failure, unsafe conditions, or insufficient reservations, a full refund will be provided.
