Looking for Hawaiian Food?

Pono Market
4-1300 Kuhio Hwy
Kapaa, HI 96746
(808) 822-4581

Right off the highway in the middle of Kapaa town you'll find Pono Market. Great Hawaiian Food for take-out. There you can choose from a Hawaiian plate lunch with choice of Lau Lau or Kalua Pig, fresh poke, Fried Chicken, Manju, Kulolo and believe it or not….a marriage license. Yes, you heard it right! For you coffee lovers, you MUST stop by to visit Ken the coffee guy right there in the market. He's not just another barista. This guy knows the art and he'll even leave his signature design atop your latte. Great way to start the day!

The Fish Express
3343 Kuhio Hwy
Lihue, HI 96766

Directly across the street from Walmart you'll find The Fish Express. This is a hot spot for locals. You'll see cars in and out of that small parking lot as long as their open sign is on. Here you'll find fresh fish to grill back at your home away from home. This is a take-out stop. They also serve Hawaiian plates with Lau Lau and Kalua Pig, fresh poi, poke, lobster salad (yum!!) and so much more. Great place to stop on your way out to the beach.

Dining

Josselin's Tapas Bar & Grill
Kukuiula Village Shopping Center
2829 Ala Kalanikaumaka Street
Poipu, Kauai, HI 96756
(808) 742-7117

Absolute fave! One of everything please. The menu varies daily based on fresh local availability of ingredients. The whole idea behind tapas style is about sharing. We suggest you each pick 2-3 for starters and then you can continue to order as you wish. You'll find choices from raw and barely touched to soups to items roasted in the kiawe wood burning oven, fresh fish and a delightful dessert menu. Enjoy a Sangria served table side. Lychee Sangria is a must try. It's very light and refreshing with a nice kick. Even the guys will enjoy.

More food...

Hamura's Saimin
2956 Kress Street
Lihue, HI 96766
(808) 245-3271

Even Frommers is talking about it. This has been the place for as long as I can recall as a child. Open since 1952, Hamura's Saimin serves up the legendary bowl of saimin noodles with sweetened pork, generous amounts of vegetables, wontons, hardboiled eggs, fish cake and you can season to preference with shoyu. They are also famous for their Lilikoi Chiffon Pie. I wouldn't dare take a trip to visit family off-island without bringing them a Lilikoi Chiffon Pie from Hamura's Saimin. It's not hard to forget. They ask for it before I can even add it to my list.

The Fish Hut at Coconut MarketPlace has THE BEST HAWAIIAN SHAVE ICE on the island. Made to order. It is deeeelish!! They are also known for their fish and chips. This is a little hut in the middle of the Coconut Marketplace. It's not fine dining so expect to get comfortable on a picnic table.

For Creative Minds

Clayworks at Kilohana's
3-2087 Kaumualii Hwy
Lihue, HI 96766
(808) 246-2529

Nestled in Kilohana Plantation is a quaint little barn like frontage store filled with handmade creations. Take home a memorable souvenir to remind you of your trip to the beautiful island of Kauai. You can create your own masterpiece out of clay, learn basic wheel throwing techniques or glaze your piece of bisque pottery and experience a Raku firing first hand. There is something therapeutic about sitting in the art studio at Clayworks. You can hear the birds chirping, a gentle wind blowing through this partially outdoor area or maybe even the rain gently falling amongst this hidden gem. It's so quiet and peaceful. You're sure to get in touch with your creative side.
